Edwin Mark Plunkett, 55

September 11, 1968  –  April 12, 2024

Okolona-Edwin Mark Plunkett was born in Tupelo on Sept. 11, 1968 to the late Wade and Joyce Roye Plunkett. Always with Stetson on, a smile on his face, pleasant in his decorum with a big ole heart larger than his hayfields, Mark Plunkett worked the fields for the last time and departed this life on Friday, April 12, 2024 from NMMC after a brief illness. Mark attended the Okolona Public Schools and graduated from Okolona High School in l986. He attended and graduated from Nashville Diesel Mechanic School. He worked 3 months in his new trade but returned to the land from whence he came. From his family’s heritage, he grew up loving the land and its produce, running cattle and bailing hay. An iconic cowboy, he was hard working and loved to play even harder. Possessed with an unmatched style and toughness, he would give you the shirt off his back. He loved squiring his lady friends, spending as much time as possible with his family and living very large. His expansive outdoor style included fishing, hunting, riding the country roads and enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Okolona.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, April 16, 2024 in the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Rev. Randy Lewman officiating. Burial will follow in Upper Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Pontotoc Co. Visitation will be from Noon-service time Tuesday only at Holland-Okolona Chapel.

Mark is survived by his sister, Cedahlia Stand; cousins, Greg Ellis (Lisa), Melissa Edwards (Bruce), Kim Burcham (Ronnie), Pam Ogletree (Mark), June Smith, Gail Pearson, John E Henton, Jr., Bill Henton and Lori Hoard(Eric); aunts and uncles, Buddy and Sue Ellis of Pontotoc, Donald Walls of Memphis; best friend/ caregiver, Debbie Sloan; and his beloved dog, Pimp. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Joyce Plunkett; grandparents, Chester and Lillian Plunkett, Theron and Uris Roye.

Pallbearers will be Carson Burcham, Brad Hester, Buster Darnell, Shane Moore, John Henton, and Bill Henton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Vic Holladay, Chad Sullivan, Mitchell Wood, Robert Atkinson, Will Atkinson, Shane May, Tommie Moore, Kevin Jones, Devan Hannah, and Carl Richey.
