Faye Vinson, 81
December 28, 1942 – November 27, 2024
Mt. Vernon Community—Martha Faye Vinson closed her eyes on this earthly life on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 and opened them in heaven with her Lord and Savior. She was a wonderful and precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and girl papaw to Candace Paige and Danni Kate. She was born on December 28, 1942 to Iva and Ureath Leathers. She was eight out of nine children. Faye was raised in the Houston Community of Itawamba County and attended Houston Community School where she played basketball. She married Wayne Vinson in 1963 and they had three children, Teresa, Missy, and Greg. She lived her life in the Mt. Vernon Community and was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Faye loved playing bunco with her Mt. Vernon friends and always rolled a lot of “big bunco’s”. Faye lived for 81 years and was a blessing to all who knew her.
Faye is survived by her daughters, Teresa Cooper (David), Missy Vinson Sample (Tracy); grandchildren, Shea Roberts White (Hopper), Darrell Cooper (Heather), Lori Cooper Baker (Steve), Gregory Vinson, Sydni Henry, Bradley Hamblin, Megan Sample Thompson (Jason); great-grandchildren, Zach Roberts, Candace Paige Lowry (Noah), Matthew Cooper, Luci Cooper, MacKinlee Henry, Mayson Henry, LeEllen Vinson, Luke Vinson, Avery Jones, Kalynn Jones, Kayleigh Thompson, Wyatt Thompson, Nick Cohen (Taylor), Seth Cohen, and Cooper Cohen,; great-great-granddaughter, Danni Kate Williams; a sister, Quinn Pounds (Hoyle); sister-in-law, Betty Leathers; a host of nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Faye; and of course, her doggies, Stitches and Smudges.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Vinson; a son, Greg Vinson, a grandson, Shaun Lowry; her parents, Iva and Ureath Leathers; four brothers, Drewy Leathers (Charlie Mae), D.D. Leathers (Mary), Leburn Leathers (Verlene) and Dane Leathers; three sisters, Mary Nell Senter (Frank), Polly Nelson (Jake) and Lynn Miller (Tom).
Visitation will be 1 until 3 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Pegues Funeral Directors in Tupelo. Services honoring Faye’s memory will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Bro. Darrell Cooper and Bro. Dave Dawdy officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in the Macedonia Community.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Cooper, Tracy Sample, Steven Cohen, Steve Baker, Zach Roberts, Van Stephenson, and Richard Stephenson. Honorary pallbearer will be her brother-in-law, Hoyle Pounds.
