Geraldine Glissen Dillard, 85

October 18, 1937 – August 22, 2023

On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Geraldine Glissen Dillard, 85, lifelong resident of Tippah County, departed this life at Rosewood Assisted Living in Tupelo.

Funeral Services honoring the life of Mrs. Dillard will be at 1 PM Friday, August 25 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Dr. Jack Bennett officiating. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM at The Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Tippah Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Dillard was born October 18, 1937 in Tippah County, the daughter and last surviving child of the late William Pad and Wilma Hurt Glissen. She received her education in the Tippah County Public School System and was married January 8, 1955 to her devoted husband, Charles “Gene” Dillard, who preceded her in death of July 2, 2020.

Mrs. Dillard was employed in the manufacturing industry of Tippah County until 1977 where she took on the most important role as homemaker, not only taking care of the home, but for all who entered the home. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, enjoyed shopping, traveling, tending to her flowers and was known as an excellent cook, especially her famous steak and gravy. A strong-willed lady who loved life, Mrs. Dillard was a true friend, even though she had “prim and proper” values, she still laughed and had much fun with her friends and family.

Loving memories will continue to be shared by her daughter, Genia Thomas (George) of Ripley, three grandchildren, Miranda Chittom, Charles Chittom and Justin Thomas, one great grandson, William Cole Thomas, two sisters in law, Jeannie Glissen and Martha Ann Glissen and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gladis Brock and Jamie Robbins, three brothers, Edd Glissen, Buford Glissen and Russell Glissen.
