Hazel Virginia Stovall, 86

January 13, 1938  –  April 8, 2024

Okolona/Oxford-Hazel Virginia Rea Stovall was the matriarch of the Stovall family since her marriage on January 13, 1959 to the late Richard Maier Stovall, Sr. The Stovall family were pioneers in the life and progress of the Okolona area since the Civil War. They farm large acreages and raise cattle on Stovall Farms to this day. Hazel was an integral part of the family business along side her husband. It was a dynamic family partnership in every way. Mrs. Stovall passed peacefully in Oxford on Monday, April 8, 2024 with her watchful and loving family around her. She was born on January 13, 1938 in Monroe County, MS to the later Ruble Chastain Rea, Sr. and Vedie Lee Wardlaw Rea Robertson. Hazel graduated from Zion Benton Township High School in Zion, Illinois, where the family had moved to work in the post WW II automobile industry. She was also a graduate of Draughon’s Business College in Memphis. Hazel was well read in quality literature, an intelligent lady whose sphere of influence ran deep among her family, friends and the greater Chickasaw/Monroe County area and a local historian of renown. She was quiet and private, deeply spiritual, adventurous and inquisitive, enjoyed travel and tending her beautiful yard on Main St. in Okolona. Her family was her pride and joy and she will be long remembered as a true Southern Magnolia in the finest sense of the word.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, April 11, 2024 in the Sanctuary of Okolona Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Curt Presley officiating. Her children will honor her with reflections and scripture readings. A private family committal service will take place in the Stovall Family Plot at Oddfellows Cemetery in Okolona. Visitation will be from 10:30-service time at the Church. Holland Funeral Directors-Okolona is honored to be serving their friends. (662 840 5000)
