NATIONAL NEWS
Hunter Biden charged for gun, tax offenses, will plead guilty
President Biden’s son Hunter will plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and admit to illegally acquiring a gun while actively addicted to drugs. While Hunter could potentially face a year in jail for each of the tax charges and a maximum of 10 years for the gun charge, the terms of the plea agreement will likely keep him out of jail. The plea agreement follows a 5-year investigation by the US Attorney’s office in Delaware. Instead, the deal will probably require him to submit to monitoring and attend drug addiction treatment.
The gun charge stems from a 2021 purchase of a gun, at which time Hunter answered “no” to a question regarding drug use. In Hunter’s memoir, he admitted to being a heavy user of crack cocaine during that period.
The tax charges relate to Hunter’s failure to pay about $100,000 in taxes in both 2017 and 2018. That amount of tax discrepancy would normally result in at least some jail time. Republicans in the House have vowed to continue their investigation of Hunter and other members of Biden’s family. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy compared Hunter’s punishment to the harsh penalties facing Donald Trump in his criminal case and called it evidence of a ‘two-tiered justice system”.

Search continues for missing Titanic tour submersible with 5 on board
A small submersible carrying four tourists and the CEO of an undersea touring company has been missing since Sunday. The submersible Titan, operated by OceanGate Expeditions, was exploring the wreckage of the Titanic (which sank in 1912) in the North Atlantic. Ships and aircraft from several countries have joined the search for the missing sub. The US Coast Guard says the search area encompasses about 10,000 square miles.
If the sub is still intact, it only has enough oxygen to last until about Thursday morning. Stockton Rush, OceanGate’s CEO, was piloting the submersible when it lost contact with the surface. Also aboard the vessel were four VIP guests- a British billionaire, a French diving specialist, and a Pakistani businessman and his son.

“Misogynist” influencer Andrew Tate indicted on rape, trafficking charges
Social media influencer Andrew Tate has been formally charged with rape and human trafficking after a months-long investigation in Romania. Tate and his brother have been accused of deceiving, coercing and even kidnapping women, forcing them into prostitution and performing sex acts on web cameras for paid subscribers.
Tate, a former kickboxer and self-described “misogynist”, had previously bragged about his illegal activities, believing that Romanian authorities would not act. Then in December, Romanian authorities raided Tate’s property and arrested him and his brother Tristan, along with two Romanian nationals participating in what prosecutors describe as a criminal gang.
