James Terrell Dye, 88

July 18, 1935 – December 20, 2023

James Terrell Dye, better known as “Pap” by his family who loved and adored him for many long and beautiful years, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023 at Union County Health and Rehab. Terrell was a lifelong resident of Blue Springs, MS alongside his wife, Anita Joye Bell Dye, of 68 years. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and retired Navy Veteran ranked on the U.S.S. LST 758 as a seaman for four years. While serving, he was awarded the Korean Service medal (3 stars), United Nations medal, China Service medal, and the National Defense Service medal. Terrell took pride in working hard to provide for his family, and throughout his life he worked at Fleming, Malone and Hyde, Bryan Foods, and finally Stokes Supermarket before his retirement.
He is preceded in death by his father, Vernon Lee Dye, his mother Lenora Dunlap Dye , his son James Terry Dye (Bubba), brothers Winston Cornelius, Lawrence Lee Dye, and sister Sue Cornelius Rowan.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anita Joye Bell Dye, his son Robert Tracy Dye (Natalie), his son Mark Alan Dye (Patricia), his daughter in law Sandra Dye (Terry Dye), his grandchildren Shannon Dye Stokes (Cullen),Tristan Dye, Christy Dye Clayton (Johnathon), Sean Collier (Wendi), Mollie Burks White (Craig), Ben Burks (Jennifer),and his great grandchildren Jemma and Evelyn (Shannon and Cullen), Caroline and Fenley Collier (Sean and Wendi), Hudson, Hagen and Hannah White Sudduth (Jay) (Mollie and Craig), Benton and Braxton Burks (Ben and Jennifer), brother in law Ronnie Bell (Jackie), along with a handful of cousins and other family members who adored him.
Terrell was a lifetime member of Ellistown Baptist Church, and had a lifetime love of country music. He was happiest in his black cowboy hat operating the sound board at Music Country every weekend for many years. Terrell was loved by many, and will be missed by all who were ever blessed with the opportunity to know him.
Services for Terrell will be directed by United Funeral Services, and held at Ellistown Baptist Church in Blue Springs, MS, December 21st, 2023. Services will be officiated by Bro. Mike Powell and Bro. Warren Ray. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 pm, with the funeral beginning at 1:00, and burial following at Ellistown Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers include: Cullen Stokes, Elijah Jolly,Craig White, Hudson White, Hagen White, Ben Burks, Braxton Burks, Jonathan Clayton
Honorary Pallbearers include: Sean Collier (serving in Okinawa, Japan), Bobby Rogers, and Johnny Epting.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Ellistown Baptist Church.
