Janis Mae Bradley Swartz, 93

January 12, 1930 – January 11, 2024

Janis Mae Swartz, formerly of Independence, Ky., died Jan. 11, 2024, at Dogwood Assisted Living in New Albany, Miss., with her daughter at her side. She was 93.
She was born Jan. 12, 1930, to James and Mildred (Cherrington) Bradley in Alliance, Ohio.
She graduated from Alliance High School before moving to Covington, Ky., to be near her mother’s family.
She worked at AT&T Long Lines in Cincinnati and her Uncle Grant’s Sweet Shop in Covington. Jack Swartz walked through the Sweet Shop door, took one look at her, and said he was going to marry her. They were married Dec. 25, 1951, and were together for 63 years, until his death in 2015.
She also worked at Western Auto and Cherokee IGA in Independence. She leaves behind her work friends and neighbors from Skyway Drive.
Janis is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Wayne Mitchell; two grandchildren, Jon Mitchell (Mary) and Morgan Hunt; six great-grandchildren; and a sister-in- law, Darlene Bradley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson Joe Woestendiek; brothers James, William, and John Bradley; sisters Sylva Tucker and Eileen Blount.
She will rest next to her beloved husband Jack at Floral Hills Cemetery in Taylor Mill, Ky.
