Jessie Hazel Thomas, 91

November 4, 1931 – August 21, 2023

TUPELO – Jessie Hazel Davis Thomas, 91, died Monday, August 21, 2023 at the North MS Medical Center in Pontotoc. Hazel was born November 4, 1931 in Red Bay, AL to the late Garvin Jefferson Davis and Lida Singleton Davis and graduated at Red Bay High School. She married Owen Thomas in Itawamba Co. on Sept. 26, l947, a marriage of 76 years. Mr. Thomas survives. A woman of strong character and with an outstanding spiritual foundation, Hazel spent her lifetime supporting and encouraging her family as a master housewife. Godly and very knowledgeable of the Bible, she was a prayer warrior and loved gospel music, singing and faithfully attending and supporting her Churches. A longtime member of Harrisburg Baptist Church, she spent the last couple decades of her life as a member of First Pentecostal Church-Tupelo, now Life of Tupelo. Mamaw loved and revered her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and served as a mentor to them. Hazel was a Proverbs 31 woman.



A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 PM Noon Friday, August 25, 2023 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Bro. David Smith and Bro. Jay Carney officiating. Visitation will be from 10 AM to service time on Friday only. Private burial will take place at Sandy Springs Cemetery in Itawamba County. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed at 12 PM at hollandfuneraldirectors.com/live-streaming, where it will be archived afterward. Hazel is survived by her husband, Owen Thomas of Tupelo, her children, Steve Thomas (Stephanie) of Tupelo, Janice Timmons of Tupelo, and Martha Thomas of Garner, NC; grandchildren, Kristie Dye (Brooks), Barrett Loague (Cailen), and Ana and Emilee Thomas; great-grandchildren, Lauren Lovell (Hunter), Avery Dye, Kayson Chism, and Adalynn and Annie Loague; and great-great-grandchildren, Easton, Baylor, and Riley Lovell.

She was preceded in death by her parents and, being the last of the 8 Davis children, was preceded in death by her seven siblings.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Lovell, Kayson Chism, Brooks Dye, Chris Hopson, Mike Collum, Tommy Dale Holcomb, and Barrett Loague.
