Jim Allen, 96

Tupelo- James “Jim” Melville Allen, 96, died Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Traceway. He was born May 7, 1927, in Cockrum, Mississippi. He is the son of William Harris Allen and Edith French Allen. Jim graduated from Mississippi State University in 1948 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and was a lifelong enthusiastic Mississippi State sports fan. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Irene Allen for 56 years and a supportive father. For 29 years, he was the General Manager at Tombigbee Electric Power Association. Following his retirement, he enjoyed boating especially on the Tombigbee Waterway and vacationing at the beach. He was a member of Saltillo Methodist Church.

Jim leaves behind two children, Nancy Bruce and her husband, Johnny, of Saltillo and Ron Allen of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Amy Bruce Hogan and her husband, Chris, of Austin, Texas, and Katie Bruce Stuart and her husband, Drew, of Tupelo; four great-grandchildren, Heath Hogan, John Andrew Stuart, Harper Hogan, and Jackson Stuart; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Joyce Hamlin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Nora Elder; and two brothers, Howard Allen and Billy Allen.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring his memory will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Rev. Tim Green officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cockrum Cemetery in Cockrum, Mississippi.

Pallbearers will be Andy Stuart, Rud Robison, Chris Hogan, Drew Stuart, John Andrew Stuart, Heath Hogan, and Jackson Stuart.
