John Kenneth Briggs, 88
January 18, 1938 – May 17, 2026
John Kenneth Briggs went to his heavenly home on Sunday, May 17, 2026 surrounded by his family. He had been in declining health for a number of years. He was born in High Point, NC on January 18, 1938 the son of the late Horace B. and Esther Murphy Briggs.
Ken was a 1956 graduate of High Point School. He proudly served in the US Navy, 1959-1963, including serving aboard the USS Forrestal. After his Navy service, he worked with Moore Electric Repair while living in High Point. After moving to Eillistown, MS, in 1969, he worked with C S Poole Construction and later worked in maintenance at Union County General hospital for 18 years. He also worked in maintenance at the ICC Tupelo campus and with Bullock Construction.
He was a member of Ellistown Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He enjoyed singing solos, in duets, in quartets, and in the choir.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, June Greer Briggs; sons, Kenneth and Brad (Cande) of Blue Springs; daughter, Lori Briggs Traylor (Terry) of Flowood; grandsons, Daniel Traylor and John Briggs; granddaughters, Makaela Traylor and Leighann Briggs; sister, Carol Ingram of Greensboro, NC; sisters-in-law, Mollye Cash of Rome, GA, Donnie Briggs of Kernersville, NC, and Paulette Watson-Greer of Nesbit, MS; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gene Briggs, and His sister Doris Briggs.
Visitation is Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 10:00am-11:00am, with service to follow at 11:00am, at United Funeral Services. 700 Highway 15 South, New Albany. Burial will be at Ellistown Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Bobby Rogers, Larry Coker, Mike Moore, Johnny Epting, John Bruce, Terry Traylor, Daniel Traylor, and John Briggs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Choice for Women, 723 Coulter Drive, New Albany, MS 38828, The Gideons International, or a charity of one’s choice.
