Linda Joan Womack, 82

May 18, 1941 – December 24, 2023

Linda Eaker Womack of New Albany, Mississippi, died December 24, 2023 at Union County Baptist Memorial Hospital, New Albany, Mississippi. Linda was the daughter of Vanna Lou Bell and Broadus Reginald Eaker. She was predeceased by her husband W. Dave Womack; her parents; sisters Wanda Eaker Henderson, Wava Eaker Hall Rakestraw, and Kaye Eaker Hall. She is survived by sons David Reginald Womack (Rhonda), Herndon, Virginia; Mark Howard Womack, Palm Springs, Florida; grandsons Caleb William Womack and John David Womack of Herndon, Virginia; sister Gloria Eaker Bennett (Mike), and brothers James Reginald Eaker (Joyce) New Albany and Larry Keith Eaker, Tupelo, Mississippi.
Linda graduated from Ingomar Attendance Center in 1958; from Northeast Mississippi Community College, Booneville, Mississippi, in 1960; from Delta State University, Cleveland, Mississippi, in 1962; from Nova University, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1977 earning her Master’s in School Administration and Supervision.
From 1962 through 1965 she taught Home Economics at Benoit High School, Benoit, Mississippi. While teaching in Benoit she volunteered as a troop leader with Girl Scouts of America which led to moving to Greenwood, Mississippi and working professionally with the organization. One of her duties was to serve as Camp Director at Grenada Lake, Grenada, Mississippi. Following this she served as a camp counselor at the International Girl Scout Roundup in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. This camp consisted of 10,000 high school girls from all over the world.
Upon moving to Florida she taught in the Palm Beach County School System for 23 years. After retiring she pursued a career in the care giving of senior citizens. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Jupiter-Tequesta, Florida where she taught youth and adult Sunday School classes and served on many councils and boards.
Linda was an active member of Fredonia Baptist Church where she taught Adult Sunday School and Bible Study. Clubs and organizations she was a member of included Ishtehotopah Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, New Albany, Mississippi where she served as Regent and Registrar; the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 72, New Albany, Mississippi where she served as President; United Daughters of the Confederacy; and the Jamestowne Society. Linda was a member of the Union County Heritage Museum.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at United Funeral Service, New Albany, MS. Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. at Fredonia Baptist Church with The Reverend Jeremy Vaughn and The Reverend Hunter Little officiating. Burial will be at Ingomar Cemetery. United Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements.
