Main Street Brings Competitive Events to Freedom Fest
New Albany Main Street is bringing two fun, competitive events to Freedom Fest weekend. On Saturday, June 29, during the first annual Blackberry Jubilee, there will be the Smoke on the Water grill competition and an ACL (American Cornhole League) regional tournament.
Smoke on the Water is open to anyone who enjoys grilling. Main Street wants at least five teams for some good old fashioned competition. Meats judged in the 2019 SMOKE on the WATER are Beef, Poultry, and Pork. Grill teams can set up and begin cooking on Friday night during the Cruisin’ in New Albany Car Show. Judging of all meat begins promptly on Saturday at 2pm. Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony at 3pm. Email Main Street staff member Tracy Vainisi at tvainisi1967@gmail.com for info and an application.
The regional ACL regional tournament events are BYOP (bring your own partner), advanced singles, social singles, and blind draw cornhole tournaments. Anyone is welcome to join in and play. For more information on sign up, go to North Mississippi Cornhole at facebook.com/nm.cornhole.50 or e-mail Tracy Vainisi at tvainisi1967@gmail.com and she will get you in touch with the group. (Wondering what cornhole is and how to play? See the link below.)
During these events, Blackberry Jubilee will have vendors, carnival rides for the kids, live music, homemade ice cream, farm displays, and some good old fashioned fun. If you are a maker and would like to set up a booth there are a few spaces left. Email Tracy Vainisi at tvainisi1967@gmail.com and she’ll get you a spot.
