Melinda Wood Johnson, 61

March 21, 1962 – November 6, 2023

New Albany – On Monday, November 6, 2023, Melinda Wood Johnson, passed away quietly from complications associated with Early Onset Alzheimer’s.
Melinda was born on March 21, 1962 in Memphis, TN, the youngest daughter of Billy and Dorris Wood. A few years later, her family relocated to New Albany, MS where she was raised on a dairy farm and attended Ingomar High School Class of 1980.
Melinda’s early years on the farm instilled a work ethic that eventually landed employment with FedEx. In addition to her FedEx career, she pursued and successfully achieved her most satisfying work as a volunteer Deputy Sheriff with the Shelby County TN Sheriff’s Department. As a Reserve Officer, she rose to the rank of Commander over the Fugitive Division.
Alzheimer’s may have shortened her time with FedEx and the Sheriff’s Department, but what it did not take was Melinda’s Christian faith. Her unwavering devotion to God and family. He loving, kindhearted spirit was freely given to everyone throughout her lifetime.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. All times are at United Funeral Service. Bro. Jim Gunter will officiate. Burial will be at Martin Cemetery.
Melinda is survived by her husband, the love of her life, Luther Johnson; siblings, Rickey Wood (Debbie), Vicky Latham, Tony Wood (Kim); a sister-in-law, Teri Walls (Tom) and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. Melinda was pre-deceased by her parents, Billy Wayne and Dorris Faye Wood and a brother, Kenneth Allen Wood.
