More candidates file for city election, salaries given/UPDATED 1-19

New Albany, MS- Three additional candidates have qualified for New Albany’s Municipal election, to be held Tuesday May 2nd.

• Amy Livingston qualified as a Republican candidate for the Ward 1 seat.
• Catania Spears Windom qualified as a Democrat candidate for the Ward 1 seat.
• Chris Buford qualified as a Democrat candidate for the Ward 3 seat.

Those wishing to run for office in the Municipal election have until until 5 p.m. Friday, March 3, to qualify.

New Albany, MS– The New Albany municipal election saw two more candidates qualify to run for seats on the New Albany Board of Aldermen, as of Monday afternoon.

Kevin Dale White, the incumbent, qualified to run again as a Democrat for alderman in Ward 3.

Scott Dunnam, now serving as alderman-at-large, filed last week to run for the Ward 1 seat as a Democrat.

Keith Conlee qualified last week to run as a Republican for the alderman-at-large seat, which Dunnam is vacating. Thus far that race has does not have a Democratic party candidate

Johnny Anderson, the incumbent Democrat alderman serving Ward 2, qualified last week to run again for that seat.

Will Tucker, the incumbent Ward 4 alderman, qualified last week to run for that office again as a Republican.

Thus we have both one Democrat and one Republican candidate for the Ward 1 position on the city board. New Albany aldermen earn an annual salary of $15, 405.

Incumbent Chief of Police Chris Robertson, a Democrat, qualified last week to run for that office again and thus far has not drawn a challenger. The New Albany police chief’s  position pays $64,226 annually.

Incumbent  Democrat Mayor Tim Kent qualified to run for that office again. He is now serving his third term.

Jeff Olson, currently serving as a Democrat, representing Ward 1 on the board of alderman, filed last week to challenge Kent and run for mayor as a Republican.

The office of mayor pays an annual salary of $84,332.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Friday, March 3, to file for the party primaries, which will be held on Tuesday, May 2.
