MS Covid-19 update 24APR20: NE Miss cases rise over 600

About the case count: The MS Department of Health currently updates its map and statistics each morning with test results from the previous day that were reported by 6:00 PM that day. Outside laboratories also report positive test results, which are included the totals. County case numbers and deaths may change as investigation finds new or additional information.

Mississippi statistics

Reported April 24, 2020:
The MSDH is reporting 281 new positive cases of Covid-19 and 8 additional deaths. This brings the state’s totals since reporting began on March 11, 2020, to 5434 cases and 209 deaths. Thirty-seven of these new cases were among residents in long-term care facilities. The number of Mississippians currently hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 infection has risen to 401.

The MSDH website is now carrying more information on cases by race and by underlying health condition such as hypertension, heart disease and diabetes.

Northeast MS statistics area by county:

Northeast MS reported 35 new positive Covid-19 cases in 10 counties. There was one additional deaths in NE Miss; the area’s total stands at 38 deaths from coronavirus 11 counties.

• As of today’s reports, from MDSH:  eight nursing homes in Northeast Mississippi have report 107 cases (18% of regional total positive cases) and 13 deaths (35% of regional total deaths).
• All 13 nursing home deaths occurred in nursing homes in Calhoun, Chickasaw and Monroe counties.
