NAHS students performing with Grammy winning artist, Sam Mosley
Bluesman Sam Mosley of New Albany visited with visual and performing arts students at New Albany High School Thursday morning, April 28th. He sang and played his Gibson electric guitar and talked about music and the development of the blues genre with groups of students for about two hours.
NAHS Teachers Mary Beth Muncie and Lee Thompson, planned and produced the event.
A Grammy award winner, Sam Mosley, and the late Bob Johnson played “urban blues” for audiences around Europe and the United States for decades. Since Johnson’s death, Mosley has continued to perform alone, with the Mosley and Johnson Band and with other artists. Most recently, Mosley performed with the Eisenhauer Band during their visits to New Albany and other north Mississippi venues.

The performing arts and choral music classes of Mary Beth Muncie at New Albany High School are wrapping up a unit of study on American music this week. To conclude their studies they invited local blues artist Sam Mosley to speak and perform for the morning. While he spoke and performed for each class, one class in particular got in on the action and sang with Sam and ended the class with a dancing rendition of “Slide On”. Several art classes were able to be a part of the morning due to their study of the blues this fall. Some of the students have even created a Twitter account @SamMosleyFans where they encourage locals to post pictures of their Sam Mosley “sightings”.
