New Albany Elementary School holds first rate, first grade Olympics
New Albany, MS– First graders at New Albany Elementary School recently completed a unit of study on the Olympics. As a part of the study, the students were allowed to share with the class the Olympic games and athletes they had watched the previous night. Students also learned about the history of the Olympics and how it has changed over the years.
The study concluded Friday, August 19th with students participating in their own Olympics. Students recreated the Opening Ceremonies by holding hand-made “torches”, reciting the pledge and listening to the National Anthem. First grade games included soccer, tennis, curling, volleyball, gymnastics, and track.
“Our teachers do an outstanding job of integrating health and fitness activities into their units of study,” said Tammie Reeder, Health Services Coordinator. “The first graders had a fun time learning more about the Olympics while being physically active.”
