New Albany will be happenin’ over the next few weeks…

Lots of great things happening in New Albany over the next few weeks as New Albany’s downtown businesses and organizations gear up for the Christmas season: Trivia Nights, Performances, Beer Tasting, An Open House, Live Music and more…

Fall is in the air and thus begins downtown New Albany’s busiest season. Long known for its beautiful downtown, the city has become a true Mississippi shopping destination in the past few years. This increase in trade and traffic have bolstered some existing events and helped to create some new ones. Check out this calendar of quickly approaching events!

Thursday, November 5

TRIVIA NIGHT AT BANKHEAD BICYCLE CLUB

Brush up on your trivia, bring a team and compete for cash, food and t-shirt prizes. Hosted by Rob Cornelius, this will be a first time event for New Albany! There will be rounds of questions, with correct answers earning points. The teams with the most points win the prizes. Friday, November 6

MISSISSIPPI BEER TASTING WITH CROOKED LETTER BREWING AT BANKHEAD BICYCLE CLUB

Owner and Brewmaster of Crooked Letter Brewing Company, Paul Blacksmith, will be celebrating his Ocean Springs, Mississippi brewery at the Bankhead Bicycle Club. Paul will be discussing craft beers with customers and giving away pint glasses. The BBC will be offering $1 off Crooked Letter’s Stebello bottles and Mystery Romp draft as well as adding a tasty onion nest sample to every dine-in burger. Sunday, November 8

DOWNTOWN NEW ALBANY OPEN HOUSE

This annual event has become famous in the past few years, getting mentions in magazines from all over the South. Downtown merchants and restaurants will be decorated and have sales and specials going on for day of afternoon shopping and even Santa will be in town! They say he’s going to be hanging out at MODA for taking pictures and picking up kids’ wish lists, so be sure and stop by. For the literary-minded, there will also be book signings in town. Katherine Hood will be at Bankhead Flowers, signing her book “Ole Miss from A to Z”.  Debra Diaz will be at In Bloom, signing copies of her “Woman of Sin” trilogy, and Joe Edd Morris will be signing “The Last page” at the Magnolia Civic Center. Friday, November 13

AN EVENING WITH THE EISENHAUERS

The Eisenhauer Band, who’ve played at Riverfest, Down from the Hills, and a number of private functions around New Albany, will be hosting a fundraiser for their new album, “Fortune Cookie” at “The Basement” event venue (under Trails and Treads) on Friday, November 13th from 7:30 until. The $25 ticket price includes a CD, food from Lagniappe catering and three drink tickets. Craft beer will be on hand for those who want it, and tea and water for those who don’t. This event will be the first of a number of music events planned for the venue, which sits adjacent to the Trailhead, downtown. THE TALLAHATCHIE RIVER PLAYERS PRESENT “IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE” AT THE CINE THEATER

With a cast made up of veterans and newcomers to TRP, this holiday classic will be performed 7pm on Friday and Saturday nights with a 2pm matinee on Sunday. Rick Robbins and Bobby White will be reprising their performances as George Bailey and Clarence Odboy, the angel.
