Relay for Life set for tonight (May 4) at Union Co. Fairgrounds
Cancer survivors and their friends will take part tonight, May 4, in the annual Relay for Life walking event at the Union County Fairgrounds. The event will start at with the Survivor Lap at 6 p.m.
Relay for Life is a world-wide fundraising program that is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. It was started in 1985. New Albany is one of about 5,000 communities in the U.S. that hold Relay for Life events, and about 20 other countries also participate. To date more than $5-billion has been raised for research and cancer treatment.
Last night, May 3, the annual Relay for Life Survivor Dinner was held at The Event Hall in New Albany. Dr. C. Michael Jones, who heads the Cancer Center at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, joined about 30 cancer survivors at the dinner. Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County sponsored the event.
