William Thomas Jones, age 79, of New Albany passed away peacefully from this earth to his heavenly home on Sunday, August 2, 2026 surrounded by his loving family, at Union County Health and Rehab.
Born on March 14, 1947, in New Albany, MS , Wiliam was the son of the late Thad and Flora Neal Jones.
Affectionately known as “Papa” spent the last three years of his life dependent on others for his care, without ever uttering a complaint. You would often hear others speak of how kind he was and what a sweet spirit he has. He loved the Lord and always enjoyed having conversations talking about how good God had been to him.
William graduated in 1965 from W. P. Daniel High School and immediately left to serve in the Air Force during the Vietnam Era and had a love for history.
Family meant the world to Papa and he always enjoyed visiting, laughing, and talking about his Ole Miss Rebels. His favorite food was a fish plate from Captain D’s. If you showed up with fish, you were his best friend forever.
William is survived by his children; William Jeffrey Jones (Shannon) of Tupelo, MS, Don McCutchen (Debra)of Pontotoc, MS , Virgie Worthy Palmer (Jimmy) of Meridian, MS , James Worthy (Rhonda) of New Albany, MS , Sondra Worthy of New Albany, MS , and Jack Allen Worthy (Lacy) of Belmont, MS, his sister Pat Brewer (Dale) of Searcy, AR. nineteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Lee Jones, daughter Lisa Williams, brothers, Paul Jones, Phil Jones, Larry Jones and David Jones.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at United Funeral Service with visitation one hour prior to the service. Bro. Mark Bishop will officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Jeffrey McCutchen, Justin Palmer, Cory Worthy, Brandon Worthy, Payton Worthy and Eli Worthy. Per the wishes of Papa, balloons will be released immediately following the service in lieu of a graveside service.
United Funeral Service has been entrusted with the arrangements for Mr. William Thomas Jones.
