Robert Crane, 88
July 8, 1938 – October 19, 2026
Robert Hoyle Crane passed away on October 19, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Union County in New Albany, Mississippi, at the age of 88.
He was born on July 8, 1938, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, to the late Grafton and Ophelia Brassfield Crane. Robert lived a life marked by faith, hard work, and devotion to the people and places he loved. He was a Christian and found strength and purpose in his church and family throughout his life.
Robert was the beloved husband of Mary Jo Steward Crane and a devoted father to his two sons, Shane Crane and his wife Audrey, and Terry Crane and his wife Karen. He was a proud grandfather to Justin Crane and his wife Christina, Skyler Crane, and Cade Crane, and he also cherished his four great grandchildren, Anna, Grayson, Jude, and Rachel. He is also survived by his sister, Margie Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Nunan Crane and Hansel Crane.
Robert spent many years working as a route salesman for Wonder Bread, where he was known for his dependable nature and friendly spirit. After retirement, he continued to stay active and useful in the ways he enjoyed most. He was a member of Wallerville Baptist Church and faithfully taught Sunday School until his health declined. His church family meant a great deal to him, and he valued the fellowship and service that came with being part of that congregation.
He was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Robert loved raising a big vegetable garden and took pride in watching it grow. He was also a devoted Ole Miss fan and followed his team with enthusiasm. Over the years, he had a soft heart for stray cats and often took them in, especially his favorite cat, Tiger. In earlier years, he also spent time repairing lawnmowers in his spare time, showing the same handy spirit that served him well throughout his life.
Those who knew Robert will remember him as funny, kind, and handy. He had a way of making others smile and was always willing to lend a hand when someone needed help. His presence brought comfort and laughter to his family and friends, and his memory will remain a blessing to all who loved him.
