Noted journalist will talk about Coach Ben Jones at Museum Moments on March 19

Museum Moments on March 19 will feature noted journalist Bill Rose who current effort is collecting information for a book on former New Albany High School football coaching legend the late Ben Jones.

Jones’ trailblazing successful coaching career carried his team to the Little 10 and state championships during his tenure in New Albany from 1979-1986.

Rose will tell about his project, and he is also seeking stories from former players and the community, including boosters, assistant coaches, players, parents and anyone with a story about Coach Jones and his time at New Albany High School.

A former journalism professor at the University of Mississippi, Rose has an extensive reporting career including stints at The Miami Herald, editor of the Palm Beach Post, director of the national reporting staff and a national correspondent for the Florida paper. He also worked as State Editor of the Delta Democrat Times.  He is a Senior Fellow at the Overby Center for Southern Journalism and Politics at Ole Miss and has won the Silver Em as well as other accolades for his writing.

Coach Jones’ record from his period of coaching in New Albany shows that he went 60 – 23 – 1 in his focused effort to win.  Stories abound about his tenacity, and if anyone has stories that could share, please come to Museum Moments at the Union County Heritage Museum at 114 Cleveland Street, New Albany.  A light lunch will be provided beginning at 11:30 courtesy of New Albany Garden Club, Rose will speak at noon.  The public is invited to this free event, made possible by the Community Partners.   For more information call 662-538-0014.
