June 1, 1931 – March 2, 2024

Sarah Blond Moore Mercer, 92, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 2, 2024, at her home in Ashland surrounded by loved ones.

Funeral services honoring the life of Mrs. Mercer will be at 2 PM Friday, March 8, 2024, at Canaan Baptist Church in Benton County with Bro. Paul Adams officiating. Visitation will be from 11 AM until service time on Friday, March 8 at Canaan Baptist Church. Graveside service will follow in the church cemetery.

Born June 1, 1931, in Tippah County, Mrs. Mercer was the daughter of the late Clyde and Fannie Mae Leopard Moore. She started school in a one room schoolhouse in Tippah County, before graduating from Falkner High School. On December 19, 1953, she married her beloved husband, James Wesley Mercer, who preceded her in death on May 7, 2021. Together they lived in Lamar, MS, and she was a valued employee of Troxell Manufacture Company for twenty years before her retirement.

One of the first charter members of Unity Baptist Church, Mrs. Mercer was a devoted Christian and Godly Woman who prayed for her family continually and talked to God daily. She was an immaculate cook who could make anything taste good and was blessed with a green thumb, always growing beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables. Above all Mrs. Mercers greatest joy came from her family. She worked hard and loved to care for each of her grandchildren. While her health declined, her home was full of love as her much adored grandchildren returned the favor caring and tending to her. She lived a good full life, fully dedicated to helping others, caring for her family, and loving the Lord full heartedly. Well, done good and faithful servant.

Memories will continue to be shared by one daughter, Dorothy Jemison (Jimmy) of the Canaan Community, nine grandchildren, Michael Rhea (Amy) Jenny Jemison, Kelly Stewart (Steven), Kaleb Jemison, Dusty Mercer (Heather), Rebecca Magee (Marshall), Phillip Mercer (Stephanie), Tina Watson (Bradley) and Brandie Bridges (John Ross), thirteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Mathis, two sons, James Alan Mercer and Steve Mercer, two brothers, Danny Moore and Charlie Moore, and a grandson, Christopher Mathis.
