Lindsay Sappington (pictured center), a New Albany High School senior, was surprised in her classroom at NAHS with the news that she is a $1,000 winner in the Get2College Scholarship Competition. The money will go to the college of her choice. Making the presentation were Stephen Brown and Austin Deskewies from Get2College, Mississippi’s nonprofit resource for free college planning. Brown rapped a song about Lindsay, and Austin threw Pay Day candy bars to her classmates to demonstrate that applying for scholarships can pay. There were more than 3,000 entries in the competition that required students to write mini essays on how they chose the colleges to which they applied and how they envision seeing themselves a year from now as they complete their freshmen year of college.
