Sheila Gay Brown, 81

August 9, 1942  –  September 24, 2023

TUPELO – Sheila Gay Grissom Brown won the victory of everlasting life from Diversicare Nursing and Rehabilitation on Eason Blvd. in Tupelo after residing there 23 years. She was 81 years old. Born in Charleston, MS on August 9, 1942 to the late Buster Grissom and Alfa Dewberry Grissom (Whitenburg), Sheila graduated from Keys High School in Keys, Oklahoma. She spent much of her life in Texas and Oklahoma while her dad worked in the oil fields. Sheila was a delightful lady, very friendly and warm and she loved people and food. She looked forward annually to spending Thanksgiving with her Aunt and Uncle, the late Bro. Andrew Cook and Sis. Cook, legendary Church of God of Prophecy ministers, and all her cousins on that side of the family. In 1994, as her health declined, she moved to Tupelo to be near her family here. She loved attending church at First Evangelical Church (now Hope Church) with her cousin, the late Glenda Wall and her husband, Herb. In 2000, she began her residency at Diversicare where she spent the last 23 years of her life. The family expresses extreme gratitude to the staff there for their wonderful watchful care of cousin Sheila and to Home Care Hospice who provided excellent service in the end of her days.

A Graveside Service celebrating her life will be held at Noon Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 at Adams Arbor Church of God of Prophecy in the Paynes Community southwest of Charleston on Hwy 32. Her cousin, Willard Cook, will preside at the graveside service. The family will receive friends afterwards in the Church Fellowship Hall. Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo Chapel is honored to serve their friends.

Sheila is survived by several cousins and their families who loved her and cared for her in life especially her years of convalescence. She was preceded in death by a young son and daughter, her parents and aunts, uncles and cousins, and other near relatives.
