Shepherd’s Center of Tupelo’s Fall Festival supports services to independently living older adults

The Shepherd’s Center of Greater Tupelo, MS provides cost-free transportation for Tupelo, MS older adults who live independently, but are unable to drive themselves to medical, rehab, and therapy appointments; grocery store/ food pantry visits; pharmacy; and personal errands.

NEMiss.NewsOn Saturday, October 19 The Shepherd’s center held its inaugural Fall Festival/Market event at Fair Park, in downtown Tupelo. The festival was held to aid in the monthly expenses of running the organization and to increase public awareness of its services. The Shepherd’s Center also encourages volunteer drivers to join them in helping older adults maintain their independent lifestyles.

The Festival was a huge success. There were 47 vendors selling jewelry, pottery, hand knitted blankets, quilted items, bird houses, art work, leather and wood working pieces, yummy treats, homemade bread, and homemade jellies. Five different items valued at over $250 each were given away in a raffle. Hamburgers and hot dogs were sold, with all those proceeds benefitting the Shepherd’s Center.

NEMiss.NewsVolunteers did face painting for the kids. Chad Watson brought his Mooreville School choir and the guitar club to perform during the day and The Ukulele Wannabes also entertained festival visitors.

It was a beautiful day and everyone seemed to enjoy the event.
