New Albany MS Thompson Square

One of the largest Tallahatchie Riverfest crowds in recent years enjoyed musical entertainment Saturday night in New Albany’s Park-Along-the-River. The crowd was estimated at 1,700 to 2,000 people.

With clear skies, temperatures in the 70s and relatively low humidity, people from Union and several nearby counties sat in lawn chairs and on blankets. They enjoyed the music of Tombigbee Divide, Natalie Stovall and the headliner act, Thompson Square.
Thompson Square is a popular country music duo from Nashville consisting of husband and wife Keifer and Shawna Thompson backed by a three guitarists and a drummer.

Ten of their recordings have been charted on country music charts Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay. Two Thompson Square singles, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” and “If I Didn’t Have You,” reached the number one position on the country charts.
Keifer Thompson is originally from Miami Oklahoma in the extreme northeastern corner of the Sooner State. Shawna Thompson is from Chatom County, Alabama, just north of Mobile. They have been married for about 20 years and have performed together for the last nine years as Thompson Square.

Tombigbee Divide kicked off the evening’s entertainment with their gospel/bluegrass sound. Opening for Thompson Square was vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Natalie Stovall. Stovall has been playing professionally since she was ten, specializing in the fiddle. Natalie made her Grand Ole Opry debut at the age of 12, and was named to CMT’s “Next Women of Music” list.

The musical entertainment Saturday night concluded three days of Tallahatchie Riverfest events that included: a literary contest that honors New Albany native William Faulkner; a blues party in the Faulkner Garden of the Union County Heritage Museum; the 30th annual Tallahatchie River Run; a Case knife show, and several other attractions.
