Vehicle crashes into downtown building – again

NEMiss.News Car crashes into downtown building

A driver lost control of a vehicle and crashed into a building in downtown New Albany Thursday night, Jan. 14.

The accident occurred about 10 p.m.

The vehicle, eastbound on Bankhead St., was apparently attempting a left turn onto Railroad Avenue when it crashed into the building at the northeast corner of that intersection. The building houses a dining room of The Rainey, a downtown restaurant.

There were  apparently no serious injuries to occupants of the vehicle. The restaurant was closed at the time. The vehicle was stopped by the curb and an exterior post without actually entering the building.

It had been raining, so the intersection may have been slick. New Albany Police officers at the scene did not believe the driver was impaired.

Police tape wrapped the scene, preventing restaurant goers from entering the area where the damage to the building occurred.
