Fire department responds to kitchen fire Monday

New Albany fire crews responded to a call on Simmons Street Monday evening.

“Fire crews were dispatched just after 6:30 Monday evening from reports of neighbors reporting smoke coming from a home on Simmons street,” Fire Chief Mark Whiteside said.

Arriving crews found smoke from a kitchen fire.

“Crews entered, checked for extension of fire, cleared all smoke and called the scene under control,” Whiteside said.

Minor fire damage was reported to the stove and vent hood, with heat damage to window blinds and smoke throughout the home. No injuries were reported on the scene.

“We remind our citizens going into the heating and holiday seasons to use caution with heating, cooking, and electrical lighting,” the chief said. “Please also check smoke alarms and replace batteries at this time.”
