Gilbert Wayne Daniel, 82

Gilbert Wayne Daniel, 82, passed away after a lengthy illness Thursday, January 26, 2023. He was born August 12, 1940, to Bro. Gilbert Mathew and Vance Green Daniel in Rienzi, MS. He graduated in 1959 from Okolona High School and attended Mississippi State University majoring in Business Administration. He met the love of his life in 1960 and married Doris Helen Germany March 4, 1961.



He worked for Futorian for 17 years and then as Covered Procurement Manager for Benchcraft for 23 years. After that he worked for Security Plus for 10 years as a security sergeant. Gilbert and Doris had three sons: Bill, Mike, and Tim while living in Okolona. After eight years, they moved to New Albany for their forever home. Friends and family were always entertained by Gilbert’s contagious wit. Those who knew him never doubted his genuineness nor his commitment to those he loved. That love spilled over into his work as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church. He also taught Sunday School at Graceland Nursing Home. He was very active in the lay ministry in Union County.

Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, January 28, at United Funeral Home with the service at 3 p.m. Bro. Tom Sumrall, Bro. Andrew Chesteen, and Bro. Harvey Sewell will be officiating. Burial will be in the Sherman Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bob Smith, Bob Moore, Bro. Harvey Sewell, Scotty Horton, Matthew Morgan, Chris Morgan, Stewart Teague, and John Didier.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters and two brothers-n-law, one son Timothy Douglas Daniel, and one granddaughter Alisha Victoria Daniel.

Survivors include his wife Doris Helen Daniel, two sons: William (Bill) Anthony Daniel, Neosho, Missouri, and Michael Wayne Daniel, New Albany; grandchildren: Gilbert’s “Dumplin” Cortney Ausburn (Chad), Myrtle; Pastor Stephen Daniel (Hannah), Kansas City, MO, Rebecca Eaton (Aaron), Fort Worth, TX; great grandchildren: Titus, Oliver, Nora, and Charlie Daniel, Grayson and Ruby Eaton, Maddie, Jase, and his special bud Gabe Ausburn, special sister-n-law Dixie Mitchell, and many nieces and nephews.
