Alan S. Pugh, 64
July 20, 1961 – September 13, 2025
Alan Shelton Pugh, 64, of Tupelo, MS, left this earthly home on Saturday, September 13, 2025. He was born in Queens, NY on July 20, 1961, to Garland and Geneva Pugh. As he prepared to enter the world, there was a horrible storm raging in Queens, which passed and brought out the most beautiful sunny day after Alan made his grand appearance.
Alan was very talented and intelligent and could do anything he set his mind to. He grew up with the exploration of self-phases of the times. He had working papers to get a job. He took the GED to finish high school. He had various jobs as the youth of that time did to support himself for the lifestyle he wanted to lead. Alan would work on automobiles and other mechanics. He was truly a jack of all trades. He also served in Germany in the United States Army. Many people are not aware that Alan earned a degree in Computer Sciences. He worked from home repairing computers including programming them.
When Alan was young, he used to question religion and how it was tough and searched until he found his home with the Jehovah’s Witnesses. He studied for years and was baptized at the Kingdom Hall in Tupelo, MS. He would talk to his siblings about religion and challenged them to do Bible studies.
Alan is remembered by childhood friends as a big brother. He was good with sports though basketball was not his forte – football was. You did not know Alan if you did not know his passion for the Dallas Cowboys.
Alan fell in love with Angela, and they married and were together for over thirty years. When he was into his feelings, he would sing his favorite song about his beloved wife… Lenny Williams, “You Know I Love You”. He was a true “Blues” Man.
It was always a joke with the family about Alan and his “fittymillion” children. He is survived by all his children. Alan Snyder (Amanda) of Pennsylvania, Alesscia Conran (Michael) of Virginia, Lynn Scott (Walter) of Georgia, Sean Robinson (Caline) of Florida, Alania Lowery (Raynard) of Georgia, Ashley Dukes, Anderica Dukes and Alanesha Pugh of Mississippi. He loved his children and enjoyed the sports themed discussions as there was only one Dallas Cowboys fan among them.
Alan is also survived by his grandchildren – Alexus, Savannah, Eliana, Evangeline, Irina, Dominic Michael, Sereniti, Maxwell, Mason, Sean Jr., Kaelin, Kensley, Payton, Rai, Nyah, Asata, Skilar, Khaleb, Alontae and Kaylee Rai. Additionally, he is survived by his three great grandchildren – Jayden, Londyn and Malakye. Alan is survived by his siblings, Michelle Pugh, Michael Pugh, Wanda Gray, Geneveive Latham (Charlie), Garland Pugh Jr. (Aja), Ronald Pugh (Melinda), Rosiland Taylor and Erica Pugh. From his wife’s family – Denise Deloach, Lorenzo Dukes (Mary), Ronald Dukes (Tawanda) and Bobby Dukes (Gloria).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Geneva Pugh, in-laws Willie B and Nan Geneva Nance, sister-in-law Terry Pugh and brother in-law Willie Thompson.
Alan leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and next generation nieces and nephews. He leaves a plethora of cousins with whom he had varying relationships, but you could always get a good story about their adventures and conversations. Alan meant different things to so many people. While it is sad when someone leaves us, his departure leaves you laughing through your tears because Alan was the original class clown and he could make a joke out of anything. That was how he could brighten your day. Those are the memories we will forever cherish.
Two of Alan’s favorite Bible Verses: Acts 24:15 – “And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” Jeremiah 29:11 – “’For I well know the thoughts that I am thinking toward you’, declares Jehovah, ‘thoughts of peace and not of calamity, to give you a future and a hope. And you will call me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you.’”
Alan had too many friends and acquaintances to name as he was a widely traveled man. He treasured those who entered his life including but not limited to his friends from the Kingdom Hall, 143rd street cohorts, military coworkers, various social friends, Facebook friends – especially his fellow gamers, and of course his sports fan friends – particularly Dallas Cowboys fans and those he encountered for just a moment.
Enjoy the memories and cherish what you have for as we know, the future is a dream we can only hope to witness.
