Born on November 29, 1937 in the Union Community of Plantersville to the late Maurice Miller “M.M.” Pettigrew and Essie Wallace Pettigrew, Fred was the third son of four sons born to this marriage. He graduated from Nettleton High School in 1955 and finished his BS degree in Industrial Education from Mississippi State University. His work remains in countless hundreds of home in our area today. In the early 1960s, Fred, a patriotic American, was a member of the Mississippi Army National Guard and was federalized during the University of Mississippi Crisis in 1962. Fred married the love of his life, Brenda Box from Bruce on July 14, 1962, a marriage of 64 years at his death. Fred was a founding elder in the Crosspointe Fellowship Church in Nettleton and was contractor over the original construction. He devoted many hours over the years supporting all the ministries of Crosspointe. He grew up in the Union Methodist Church where most all the Pettigrews attended at some point. Fred was a skilled businessman, a great community leader and encourager of many young people. He had a dry wit but was an independent thinker, knowledgeable and proficient in his dealings with his fellowman. His legacy will be that of a man of faith and strength.
