Temporary bridge moves Martintown Rd. project along
A heavily-built, temporary bridge has been built immediately downstream of the new highway bridge being constructed to carry Martintown Road traffic over the Little Tallahatchie River.
According to Union Country District Two Supervisor Chad Coffey, the low temporary bridge, constructed mainly of large-dimension wooden timbers, is to be used only for heavy equipment and materials handling as the new span over the river moves toward completion.
Re-enforced concrete “end caps” are being poured now, after which additional structural elements will be installed.
It is expected that the new bridge will be opened to motor vehicle traffic sometime in August, but it could happen earlier or later, depending mainly on the weather.
