Alvin Clayton Cousin, 69

January 30, 1955 – April 3, 2024

Alvin Clayton Cousin, was born to the late Warren G. Cousin, Sr and Zora B. Cousin on January 30, 1955 in Macon, MS. He was the 4th child of 6 siblings. He was given the nickname “Red” during his childhood days due to the color of his hair.

Alvin gave his life to Christ in 1962 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. He then united with Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. There he joined the choir and enjoyed Sunday school and worship services.  He remained an active member until his health failed him.

As a humble and quiet individual from the beginning, Alvin was an excellent musician and basketball player. Alvin graduated from Houston High School in 1972.  His senior year he was a member of the basketball team that won the state championship.  After high school he attended Rust college majoring in music. He also ran cross country. There he became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. in 1974. After Rust he also attended Valley State University and Jackson State University. He was a member of the band at each university. As a master of music Alvin was able to play all instruments but had a special love for the trumpet, piano, and violin. His favorite group was “Chicago”. He liked the melodious sound that the trumpet, trombone, and saxophone made together. His favorite artist was James Brown. The syncopated upbeat tempo would really get him going. He learned to imitate the moves of James Brown. He participated in a James Brown dancing contest.

While Alvin never married, he lived a full and vibrant life with the love of family and friends. This love was given to him because of his caring, supportive, and humble spirit. His parents, brothers, sister, nieces, and nephews meant more to him than words could describe. He would always help his nieces and nephews learn to play their new instruments or show them his piano skills. He enjoyed joining in on a basketball or kickball game. He loved being the lookout guy for his nieces and nephews when they were picking off the plum tree without bigmomma’s permission. His pride and joy was his parents.  He made sure they had everything they needed. After college Alvin came home to help with the farm and assist his parents in any way possible.

Alvin leaves to cherish his memories to his mother Zora B. Cousin, Houston, MS, his siblings Erie Cousin (Tupelo, MS), Bernard Cousin (Vera), Midlothian, TX, Richie Cousin (Annettee), Houston, MS, Dr. Rev.
