Billy James Tanner, 78

Billy James Tanner, 78, passed away on August 22, 2023 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Union County. He was born May 24, 1945 in Baldwyn to Sam and Edna Thomas Tanner. He loved his family and spending time with them playing rook and dominos. He was a wonderfully hilarious man, loved cutting up and telling jokes. He gave everyone a nickname. He was also known to tell it like it was.
He worked hard to provide for his family. He worked as a long haul truck driver for over 35 years, a mechanic, an insurance salesman, an avid fisherman and hunter, after becoming disabled, and his newest hobby collecting coins.
Billy is survived by the love of his life, Judy Blackard Tanner, his wife of 57 years; two daughters, Missy Coltharp (Sam) and Christy Young (Brad); one son, B.J. Tanner (Shelly); five grandchildren, Brittany Jeter (Patrick), John Tanner, Carley Ausburn (Ben), Lauren Coltharp, Gara Beth Self; three great grandchildren, Jaden Jeter, Jensen Jeter and Henley Kate Ausburn; and Baby Boy Jeter on the way.
Funeral services will be at 2:00p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at United Funeral Service with Bro. Jimmy Russell officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Tanner, Lee Tanner, Mike Madonna, Billy Gene Kizer, Dean Blackard Bryan Abel, Steven Skelton and Brad Blackard.
