Demetria Walters, 88

December 24, 1934 – November 18, 2023

New Albany- Demetria Willard Walters, 88, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023. She was born December 24, 1934 to Orven “O.B.” and I.C. Taylor Willard. She was member of Philadelphia Baptist Church, the choir at church, and the Heart-to-Heart Sunday School class. Demetria was an active supporter of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Museum of Art, and General Charities, Inc. She was also a big supporter of the West Union Eagles Basketball and Baseball teams. After many years of dual residency with Mississippi and Indiana, she completely became a Mississippi only resident in November 2023. Demetria was small in stature with a larger-than-life personality and unmeasurable love for her family. She will be missed by all that knew her.
Services to honor a life well lived will be on Tuesday, November 21 at 12:00 noon at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Irvin officiating. A visitation will be from 10:00am till the start of the service at 12:00. Burial will be at Philadelphia Cemetery. Pallbearers are Brian Willard, Mark Willard, Dustin Pounders, Justin Willard, Michael Tate, and Matthew O’Brien.
She is survived by four sisters, Jeaneva Willard Grant, Carol Willard Tate (Ray), Kay Willard Azlin (Rayburn) and Patsy Willard, one brother Terry Willard (Diane), two daughter-in-law’s, Margaret and Shelly, two brother-in-law’s, Ken Nutt and Hershel Melton, one sister-in-law, Reba Willard, seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles H. Walters Jr. to whom she married in 1957, two sons, Rickey Walters and David “Skip” Walters, two sisters, Lane Willard Nutt and Helen Willard Melton, two brothers, James Richard Willard and O.B. Willard Jr., one brother-in-law, Bobby Grant, and one great grandchild.
