Edith “Jean” Finton Simon, 82

February 12, 1941 – August 23, 2022

Edith “Jean” Finton Simon, aged 82, of Raymond, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at Sanctuary Hospice House on August 23, 2022. She was born on February 12, 1941, in Memphis, Tennessee, to her loving parents, Alonzo Finton and Zela Mae Robinson.



Jean leaves behind a cherished legacy and is survived by her daughter, Donna Paquin ( of West Columbia, South Carolina, and her son, Brian Paquin of New Orleans, Louisiana. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Campbell of Walls, Mississippi, and a circle of special friends who were like family to her – Helen Sanders, Margret Barr, Joe Fowler, and Max Flanagan. Her neighbors held a special place in her heart, and she was embraced as a beloved member of their community.

Jean’s warm heart extended to her feline companions, most notably her beloved cat, Prince Ugly, who held a special place in her heart. She also leaves behind four grand cats, Helen, Raymond, Pythagoras, and Mr. Wiggles, who brought her endless joy and companionship.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Zela, and her brother, Joseph Finton.

Jean had a passion for animals, and her love for them was unwavering. She was an avid reader with an insatiable appetite for history, and her love for travel enriched her life with countless adventures and stories.

What truly defined Jean was her generosity and kindness, often extending her hand to help those in need. She had a heart that welcomed anyone who crossed her path. Her vibrant spirit and charisma made her the center of attention wherever she went. Jean lived her life authentically, on her terms, and her unique personality left an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

In celebrating the life of Edith “Jean” Finton Simon, we remember the love she had for family, friends, and her beloved pets. Her legacy of warmth, kindness, and independence will be carried forward by those whose lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
