Gene Smith, 86

New Albany – Thomas Eugene “Gene” Smith, 86, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Union County Health and Rehab in New Albany. He was born August 2, 1937 in Union County to Coy Smith and Willie Loduska Robinson Smith. He was a mechanic employed by Union Auto for 29 years and later served as owner/operator of Gene Smith and Son, working there until his retirement. He enjoyed going out to eat and spending time with his wife and family. He was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Glenfield Baptist Church. He was a very loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend; and will be missed by all who loved him.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. until funeral service time at 1:00 p.m. at United Funeral Service. Burial will be at Glenfield Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Dismuke Smith; two sons, Phil Smith (Wanda) and Bodie Smith (Cheryl); a sister, Margie Trimm (Wayne); a brother, James Smith; a step-son, Charles Gadd (Rebecca); a step-daughter, Jamie Green; a son-in-law, Danny Hearn; four grandchildren, Blake Smith (Amber), Brad Smith, Ryan Hearn (Laken) and Logan Hearn; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Dawn Hearn; his first wife, Elsie Smith; and two brothers, Lester Smith and Donnie Smith.
Pallbearers will be Blake Smith, Brad Smith, Ryan Hearn, Logan Hearn, Steve Gray and Russell Trimm. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Glenfield Baptist Church Adult Men Sunday School Class.
