Guy E. Autrey, 82

OKOLONA – Mr. Guy Edward Autrey, 82, a great soul and devoted Christian gentleman, died Sunday, December 17, 2023 at his Okolona residence. A lifelong resident of Okolona, Guy was born June 20, 1941 to Norman J. Autrey and Omie L. Motes Autrey. He lived some of his childhood in Lamar County, Alabama but lived most of his life in Chickasaw County. He worked many years as a supervisor in the furniture manufacturing industry employed by United Furniture. Previously, he worked in the garment industry at Meadow Sportswear/Indian Creek Apparel. During his earlier years, he co-owned A & B Electric. He loved ole time Gospel Music, especially the Chuck Wagon Gang. He enjoyed all God’s Creation, was a master fisherman and a master gardener. He greatly loved his family and Poppie was revered by all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Guy was a longtime member of Carnation Baptist Church and presently a member of Okolona First Baptist Church where he was active and faithful in every aspect of the Church. He was married to Carol Faye Woodall until her death and, in 1975, he married Nellie Petree Autrey until her death in 2017. Guy was a standup man, loved and respected by all, and beloved by his children and their families, his Church family, and a wide circle of friends.
A celebration of life service will be at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Okolona First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Randy Lewman officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be today (Tuesday) from 4 PM – 7 PM and again on Wednesday from 12 noon to service time, all at the church. Holland Funeral Directors-Okolona is honored to serve their friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Patrice Autrey Gamblin (Rick) of Ellistown; a son, Terry Autrey (Tina); 3 sisters, Sue Doss (Curt) of Okolona, Peggy Bailey (Jimmy) of Houlka, and Gail Cruse (Jackie) of Okolona; grandchildren; Cyndi Gillespie of Tupelo, Brittan Morgan (Marty) of Plantersville, Timothy Autrey of Okolona, Arron Bryant of Ellistown, Andy Owen (Jennifer) and Lona Faye Owens, all of Pontotoc; great-grandchildren, Charlie Beth Morgan, John Matthew Morgan, Devon Owens, Alyssa Owens, Natalie Owens, Liam Gillespie, Judah Gillespie, Gabrielle Bunn, and Alyssia Brown. Guy was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, a son, David Wayne Owens who died in 1989; sister, Barbara Franks; granddaughter Amanda Autrey, and great-granddaughter, Harley Autrey.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Timothy Autrey and Arron Bryant, and nephews Wayne Moore, Norman Cruse, Jamie Long, and longtime friend Ken Eubanks. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class of Okolona First Baptist Church.
