Irwin Byrd “IB” Lasseter, Jr., 71

August 11, 1952 – December 23, 2023

HOULKA – Mr. Irwin Byrd ‘IB’ Lasseter, Jr., age 71, died Saturday, December 23, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his wife and son, Rickman. He was born into a military family on August 11, 1952 in Union Springs, Alabama to Irwin B. Lasseter, Sr. (U.S. Army, Ret.) and Elma Coxwell Lasseter. He was a graduate of Bullock Memorial High School in Union Springs and attended Tuskegee Institute. He served in the U.S. Army for 7 years, 11 months, and 7 days before being honorably discharged. Soldier Lasseter was stationed in Germany and Korea during his service. He moved to the Northeast Mississippi area from Alabama in 1995. He married Cynthia Sims on March 15, 1997. During his career, he worked as a conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad for over 2O years. Afterwards, he trained as a Ferrier and spent 4 years shoeing horses all over the South. His last 10 years were spent as a salesman for Bonnie Plant Farm. I.B. had a servant’s heart, helping with the 2015 tornado clean-up in Chickasaw. A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at Grenada Lake with his son, Rick. He loved to travel, had an adventurous nature and enjoyed trying different foods.



A memorial service, celebrating the life of Mr. Lasseter, will be held at 12 PM Thursday, December 28, 2023, in the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Rev. Dr. Randy Lewman officiating. A graveside service will follow in Boone’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 AM to service time only at the funeral home. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy Lasseter of Houlka; children, Eric Scott Lasseter of Adams, TN, stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky., Rikke Rachelle Kalkstein (Jamie) of Grand Prairie, TX, and Rickman Ryan of Houlka; brother, Cecil Lasseter (Sabrina) of Union Springs, AL; sister, Beth L. High (Frankie) of Perote, AL; sister-in-law, Wanda Ellis (Frankie – deceased); 5 grandchildren, Leslie Massey (Nick), Tyler Lasseter, Jonathan Toney, Anna Toney, and Everett Kalkstein; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother- and father-in-law, Edna and Ralph Franks, and Eath Sims.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jonathan Toney, Everett Kalkstein, Tyler Lasseter, Nick Massey, Jamie Kalkstein and nephews, Tommy Hollis, and Marty Lasseter.
