James Ray Williams, 60

April 25, 1963 – February 4, 2024

Saltillo– James Ray Williams, 60, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. James Ray was born April 25, 1963, to James Thomas Williams, Sr. and Helen Faye Cunningham Williams in Tupelo.



He was a jack-of-all-trades. Whether it was painting or working as a dispatcher for the cab company, James Ray approached each role with commitment and proficiency. James Ray was also a proud veteran of the United States Army. His kindness and respect for others were the cornerstones of his character, endearing him to a wide circle of friends and family.

Recently baptized, James Ray was a devoted member of East Heights Baptist Church. He found spiritual fulfillment and a supportive community in the church.   James enjoyed the simple pleasures of hunting, fishing, and gun collecting. He loved all animals, especially his cats.

James Ray leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Janet Hicks Williams; brother, James Thomas Williams, Jr.; nephew, James “Scooter” Williams; and numerous cousins including one special cousin, Leslie Nanney.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring James Ray’s life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Rev. Jay White officiating. Graveside services will follow in Fellowship Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Phillips, Jonathan Phillips, Tim Phillips, Narin Abernathy, and Terry Hicks.
