Mable Elizabeth Myrick Gates, 92

January 14, 1932 – March 13, 2024

Mable Elizabeth Myrick Gates entered eternal rest on March 13, 2024. She was born January 14, 1932 to Charles Earl Myrick and Lela Cooper Myrick in the Lone Star community of Union County. She attended school at Lone Star Elementary and finished high school at Pinedale in the class of 1950.
On April 11,1953 she married Duncan Lamar Gates of the Pinedale Community and they made their home in various areas of Union County before settling in Blue Springs in 1967.
She was a homemaker and care giver to her parents and in laws, George and Effie Duncan Gates, for many years before joining the Union County Health Department as a home health aide for several years.
After her tenure in home health, she took to writing family stories handed down through the generations and her experiences growing up during the depression and as a caregiver. The stories culminated in the publication of two books containing compilations of these stories.
She was a member of the Wallerville Baptist Church for many years where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.
She is survived by her son, Charles Anthony Gates and wife DeLois Loyd Gates of Corinth, a sister, Hazel Davis of Tupelo several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Duncan Gates, parents, in laws George and Effie Gates, sisters and brothers in law, Lorene Myrick, Ruth Canerdy(Perry), Pearl Hill(Lloyd), Faye Dowdy(Royce), Linda Smith(Cecil) and a brother Thomas Myrick(Melvie), sister in law Jettie Gates Smitherman ( Lee).
Per Mable’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. There will be a graveside commitment for family at the Corinth National Cemetery. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Potter-Henry -Lowry Post 72, of the American Legion or to the charity of donor’s choice.
