Margie Leigh Merrel Sawyer, 65

Margie Leigh Merrel Sawyer, a beloved daughter, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away on October 25, 2023 at the age of 65, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born on November 15, 1957, in New Jersey to her parents Forrest and Margie Young Merrel.



Margie was a loving and dedicated daughter to her father, Forrest Merrel. She was a cherished mother to her sons, Roger Pankow of Baldwyn (Andrea) and Kevin Pankow of Long Beach, CA, who meant the world to her. Her sisters, Jeana Lonzo of Idaho and Cindy Davenport of Nevada, as well as her brother Rocky Merrel of Corinth, shared a deep and lasting bond with Margie, and they will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Margie also leaves behind her two precious granddaughters, Alyssa and Lola, who brought immense joy and happiness to her life. Her love for them knew no bounds, and the memories they shared will be treasured forever.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marge Young Merrel, and her sister Sharron Merrel Morgan. Margie’s passing has left a void in the hearts of her family that will never be filled, and her memory will be a source of comfort and strength in the days to come.

Margie found solace and happiness in the company of her faithful canine companion, Snowball. Together, they shared countless moments of companionship and comfort.

Margie’s life was filled with a passion for various hobbies. She had a talent for puzzles, often spending hours engrossed in solving them. Her artistic side shone through her love for drawing. She had a green thumb and found tranquility in her garden, nurturing vibrant blooms and lush greenery. Margie also had a fondness for fishing, relishing the peaceful moments by the water’s edge. Her varied interests reflected her zest for life and her ability to find joy in the simple things.

Margie Leigh Merrel Sawyer will be remembered for her warmth, her love, and her vibrant spirit. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Though she has departed from this world, her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Margie’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the beauty she brought into the world. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her family find comfort in the cherished memories they shared with her.
