Mary Roberts Green, 94

 October 4, 1929 – November 9, 2023

TUPELO – Mary Roberts Green, 94, passed away peacefully at her son’s home in Athens, GA, on November 9, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born in New Albany, Mississippi on October 4, 1929, to the late John Luther and Ila Griffith Roberts. Mary’s career was guided by her desire to help people, from Region III Mental Health bookkeeper until her retirement and then 20+ more years as a “full-time” volunteer for the Salvation Army. She picked up the Army’s mail every morning and then reported to the office for work at least 8 hours daily Monday-Friday (longer near Christmas to retrieve and balance donations). If work was light in the office, she assisted with the Salvation Army Children’s Programs as well as participated in the Women’s Home League. She also delivered hot meals for the Meals-on-Wheels Program and served as a member of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary where she was a financial secretary and assisted with multiple fundraising campaigns. Mary’s life was completely lived with a sharing, caring servant’s heart, and her legacy will be that of a great soul whose selfless, devoted Christian spirit brightened the lives of every person she came in contact with.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband and great love of her life, James D. Green; three brothers, Jamie, Joe, and Doug Roberts; and parents, John Luther and Ila Griffith Roberts.

Mary is survived by her children, Larry (Kim) Green, and David (Margaret) Green, and her grandchildren, Jonathan Green, Caitlin (Sergio) Kusnetzow, and Kelsey (Matthew) Wright, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 PM to 4 PM on Sunday, November 12 at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo. A Graveside Service and burial will take place at 1 PM on Monday, November 13, at Glenwood Cemetery located at North Green Street and East Jackson Street in Tupelo, MS.
