McArthur Rayburn Mathis, 81

March 29, 1942 – December 2, 2023

McArthur Rayburn Mathis, 81, longtime resident of Tippah County, departed this life on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the Tippah County Hospital following an extended illness.



Funeral services for Mr. Mathis will be Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at County Line Church at 1PM with Bro. David Hegg officiating and John Null sharing personal reflections.  Visitation will be Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 5PM until 8PM at County Line Baptist Church and will continue Wednesday from 9AM until time of service.  Burial will follow in County Line Cemetery.

Mr. Mathis was born, March 29, 1942, in Walnut to the late J. V. and Avis Fiveash Mathis.  He received his education from the Mathis School System in Walnut and on May 20, 1961, he married the love of his life Patsy D. Smith Mathis, who precedes, and together they built a foundation of Christian values for their family.  Mr. Mathis was a valued employee in the paint department for the Wurlitzer Corporation throughout his life.

A member of County Line Baptist Church, Mr. Mathis enjoyed attending revivals, singing and being around people. He will be remembered for taking the time to visit and fellowship, especially with those that called him “Grandpa Mathis”, his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memories include two daughters, Kathy D. Null (Anthony) of Walnut, and Patricia McCarty (Mickey) of Joplin, MO, four grandchildren, John Null (Mandy), Kristin Null, Ryan Simpson and Mitchell Simpson, three great grandchildren, Easton Null, Christopher Null, and Lillian Kuykendall.  Preceding him in death include his parents, his wife, Patsy Mathis, one sister, Mary Katherine Patty, and one brother, Kenneth Mathis.
