Ray Fooshee, 79

October 16, 1944 – November 23, 2023

Jacksonville Beach, Fla/Union County-Sammy Ray Fooshee, 79, died from complications of intestinal disfunction at Baptist Hospital, DeSoto County on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov.23, 2023. Born and raised in Union Co, he was the son of the late Ralph Fooshee and Mary Alice Carter Fooshee and was born on Oct. 16, 1944. He attended the Ingomar Schools and received his BA and MA degrees from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). Ray and his wife, Lynn lived most of their adult lives in the Jacksonville Beach area of Florida. He married Carolyn Knight in Monroe, LA. on Aug. 19, l967, a marriage of 56 years. Ray was a public school teacher for 35 years in the Duvall County, Florida School System. Ray was a Physical Education teacher, a coach and a celebrated Drivers Education Teacher. He was revered by his students.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 PM Saturday, December 2, 2023 in the Sadie M. Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with private burial to follow in Ingomar Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon-service time on Sat. Dec. 2, 2023. A full obituary will follow.
