Richard Erwin “Ren” Nelson, 47

July 8, 1976 – March 14, 2024

Richard Erwin “Ren” Nelson, 47, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024 in New Albany. He was born on July 8, 1976 in Vicksburg, MS to David Raymond Nelson and Mary Anna Harvey Nelson. He graduated from Columbus High School and then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
He enjoyed watching Ole Miss sports, watching his sons’ tennis matches; cooking and entertaining with his close family and friends, and being with his dog, Mac.
He was a member of First Methodist Church of New Albany, where he taught Sunday School. He was a beloved husband, son, father and friend; and will be missed by all who loved him.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at First Methodist Church of New Albany and again on Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until the funeral service begins at 4:00 p.m.
Reverend Dr. Timothy Prather will officiate followed by a private burial at Vista Memorial Park. United Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements.



Ren is survived by his wife, Lee Ellen Didier Nelson; his parents, David and Mary Anna Nelson; two sons, John David Nelson and Gregory McBride “Guppy” Nelson; Brother, James David Nelson (Wesley); in-laws Mr. and Mrs. John Didier (Jane); brother in law Dan Didier (Michelle); 2 nephews and 3 nieces, many uncles, aunts and cousins, and a bonus son, Teterrain “Teddy” Wilson.
Pallbearers will be Robbins Rogers, Andrew Brown, David Gentry, C.J. Bright, Jay Foster, Chad Bailey, Scott Shipman, Keith Conlee, Mike Conway, Michael Henry, Chad Aldridge, Mark Ozbirn, Benton Still, Tyler Still, John Robbins Rogers, and Sam Bradley Rogers.
Honorary pallbearers will include the Salt and Light Sunday School Class of First Methodist Church of New Albany.
