Ronald Liddell Palmer, 89

January 18, 1935April 24, 2024

Ronald Liddell Palmer was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born January 18th, 1935, in New Albany, Mississippi. He was known to all to be a man of integrity, honor, and wisdom.

Ronald loved his family immensely. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was quiet and kind, an avid reader of westerns, a former outdoorsman and hunter who raised Coondogs and trained them for folks across the United States. He was a master welder and worked many years at Mesker Steel, ending his career at Piper Impact.

He served in the Army and had fond memories of his time in Germany. He enjoyed being outdoors and had many interests through the years, which included driving race cars and riding horses. He had a keen wit and a great sense of humor.

Ronald enjoyed many things in his life, but nothing compared to the love he had for his family. He loved his children beyond measure and led them by example. He provided, he disciplined, and he loved them, providing security and a loving home. His role as father was of utmost importance to him but even greater was his role as husband. He adored and loved his little wife, Ann, or “Pooh” as he lovingly called her, above anything in the world.

Ronald and Ann met in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 25 years old and she was 17 when they tied the knot. He loved her enough that he was willing to take along all her siblings with them on their very first date.

He often shared his love of God with his family, recounting for them when he met Jesus and submitted his life to Him. He gave his heart to the Lord as a young man within the very walls of the home he bought many years later. And that is the same place he met Jesus again on Wednesday. Ronald often said how much he loved that old house, he loved the hills on which he lived, and he had a beautiful family he counted as all great blessings from God.

Ronald is the husband of Martha Ann Palmer (Hurst), the father of Ronnie Palmer (Kyong-Tan), Richard Palmer (Candi), and Melissa Palmer Dunnam (Bryan). He is preceded in death by his parents, Pauline Rakestraw Palmer and Boyd “Dutch” Palmer, his brother, Donald Palmer, and his son, Ricky Palmer.

Services honoring the life of Ronald Palmer will be Friday, April 26th at Center Baptist Church from 12 PM to 2 PM with services to follow at 2 PM.

Bro. Mike Brazeal and Bro. Jared Busby will be officiating.

Pallbearers are grandsons: Chris Palmer, Adam Palmer, Sam Palmer, Joe Palmer, Tyler Palmer, and Isaiah Sheffield.
