MANTACHIE / BREWER – One of God’s choice shepherds, Bro. Tim Tutor, has realized to promises of the Gospel he has preached for almost 28 years and met his Savior face to face. Timothy Lamar Tutor died Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Baptist East-Memphis after a bout with the flu and sepsis. He was 56 years old. Tim was born in Lebanon, TN on December 31, 1966 to Alvin Lamar Tutor and Martha Ann Houpt. He graduated from Tupelo High School in 1984 and completed his AA Degree in Radiologic Technology. Tim worked for Baptist Hospital-Booneville as a Radiologic Technologist for several years. He married the love of his life, Melissa Ann Loden of Mantachie on Aug. 2, 1986 at First Baptist Church-Verona.

In 1995, Tim answered the call to be a minister of the gospel of Christ. He received his BA Degree in Preaching from Blue Mountain College 1999. A caring, loving and God-centered minister in the Baptist faith, Bro. Tim pastored a few churches in Mississippi and Tennessee before becoming the full-time minister of the Brewer Baptist Church in the Brewer Community of south Lee County 13 years ago. He was loved, respected and revered by the Church members as a gospel-centered preacher and beloved by them as a Pastor who ministered to all their individual needs. He recently baptized several young people birthed during his Brewer ministry, which was very fulfilling to him.

Tim (Pops) was completely smitten his two grandsons, Cayson and Hayes, and spent every second he could with them. An avid outdoorsman, Tim loved hunting, fishing and camping. He especially liked squirrel hunting, squirrel dog training at his kennels, and leaves behind his two prized squirrel dogs, Preacher and Deacon. He was thrifty and a “rigger” of many things. Tim will long be remembered as a devoted son, brother, husband, daddy and granddaddy, but his legacy will certainly include being a faithful servant of God’s word and sharing it unashamedly with those he loved.

A service celebrating his Victory in Jesus will be held at 1 PM Friday, September 8, 2023 at Brewer Baptist Church with Bro. Mitch Grissett, Bro Kenny Digby, and Bro. Johnny Burns officiating. Burial will follow in the Walton Cemetery near Mantachie. Visitation will be from 5PM-8PM Thursday and from 11 AM-service time on Friday, all at Brewer Baptist Church, 302 CR 520, Shannon, MS 38868. Tim is survived by his wife, Melissa of Mantachie; his son, Dustin Tutor and wife, Brittany of Auburn; Pop’s grandsons, Cayson and Hayes; his mother, Martha Cornett and her husband, Bro. Bill Cornett; his father, Lamar Tutor and his wife Claire of Saltillo; a sister Patti Leslie (Dubs) of Auburn; a young man he viewed as a son, Jason Pettigo (Molly). Tim leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins on the Loden and Tutor side whom he loved. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Loyd and Rae Houpt and Alvin and Artilene Tutor.

Pallbearers will be Jason Pettigo, Chris Umfress, Steve Hunter, Mitch Johnson and Ken Barron. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons at Brewer Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to The Gideons International, P. O. Box 1073, Tupelo, MS 38802.
