Born February 27, 1937, in Shelby County, Tennessee, Van was the son of the late Thelma Fitch and Van E. Moore Sr. He received his education from Messick High School in Memphis and continued his education from The University of Tennessee at Martin where he completed his business degree. Van served Tippah County proudly and was employed with the City of Ripley as Justice Court Judge for multiple years before his retirement in 2013. While as judge, he played many different roles which included assisting with the Special Olympics, driving a school bus for South Tippah School District, running concession stands at First Monday, serving as a 32nd degree Mason, and owning and operating multiple businesses such as Fairview Grocery, Penny Pinchers Salvage Grocery, and Casual Comfort Furniture Co.

To know Van was to love him. His people skills and friendly personality were second to none. He found joy in telling jokes, talking with friends, and making people feel loved. Most of all he loved his family. His role as Papaw was very important and he took pride in his grandchildren. He was the first to call when in trouble and they knew they could always count on him. A solid, great, and purpose driven man, Van lived a good full life and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memories include two daughters, Angie Rooker, and Carin Booker, both of Ripley, four grandchildren, Wendell “Munchie” Booker, Jr., Rhyan Booker, Christan Booker (Austin Hill), Taylor Heavener (Kaleb), and six great grandchildren, Payton, Rolyn, Jettie, Tessa, Rylan, and Babee.

He is also preceded in death by his wife, Treva Anderson Moore.
